What is a timber frame house?

A house built using timber frame technology is a building in which the walls, roof and structures are made of wood, insulation and additional protective materials. The basis of the construction is the frame, which, if properly executed, provides strength and reliability. Insulation material, specially designed for this type of construction, provides excellent thermal insulation properties and low level of heat loss by being placed in the panels. Vapour barrier, windproof and diffusion films protect the house from wind and moisture, as well as other negative environmental factors. Most of the elements are manufactured in the factory, and on the construction site the installation of the finished panels and the final assembly of the house takes place.

Advantages over a conventional house.

A frame house built in compliance with all building regulations has many advantages over traditional brick and aerated concrete buildings. It is erected four times faster, loses 15% less heat and costs on average 40% less than a similar brick house. Since the construction consists of wood and mineral wool, the house "breathes", creating a comfortable and cosy microclimate. In addition, the lightness of the construction allows the use of more economical types of foundations.

Heat loss.

Energy efficiency - in simple terms, how much energy you have to use to maintain a comfortable temperature inside your home. It is classified into classes from A++ to G. Our houses correspond to class A, which is very good in Latvian conditions, some projects are energy efficient - class A+ . To increase the temperature by 1 degree (Celsius) in such houses, it takes about 44% less energy than in block houses. Saving on heating costs is a nice advantage of a frame house.

Are they durable?

A timber frame house designed for comfortable living and complying with all construction standards is a durable and resistant to various weather conditions. The strength of each house is calculated by a specialist, including the use of computer programmes, taking into account the peculiarities of construction conditions.

What materials are used and what is their quality?

The frame house is mainly made of wood. Only high quality calibrated C24 grade lumber with a moisture content of 18% is used. In some minor areas, C16 grade materials are used. Insulation and other components are supplied only from time-tested manufacturers: Paroc, Rockwool and Isover.

How quickly are they manufactured?

Manufacturing a 150 square metre house takes two to three weeks. Once the panels are produced and delivered to the construction site and the foundation is ready, assembly takes another two to three days, and the final work to complete the final assembly of the house, such as the installation of the roof, takes about one to two weeks.
